Regional Editor, M.Roberts Media — 2018–present
Serving as editor for The Panola Watchman and, since December 2020, the Kilgore News Herald, two twice-a-week newspapers. Duties include managing a small staff of reporters, assigning and editing stories, reporting news, shooting photos, designing pages, manning the website, updating social media, collaborating with contributors and readers, and working on special sections and Kilgore’s Etcetera Magazine. A revamp of the Watchman has increased readership and audience engagement despite the implementation of a paywall — and the idea is to do the same in Kilgore.
Interim Editor, Marshall News Messenger, M.Roberts Media — Dec. 2018-2019
Temporarily stepped in as interim editor for several stints while also still in the Watchman role to manage the daily Marshall paper and its special sections while Publisher Jerry Pye searched for a new editor. Also assisted the Marshall paper as Monday editor on a weekly basis for most of 2019. Duties included editing, reporting and photography work.
Reporter, M.Roberts Media — 2016-2018
Worked as city reporter for the Marshall News Messenger before being transferred to the Longview News-Journal to work as cops reporter, and later education reporter. Duties included daily and enterprise stories, as well as some photography and videography.
Neighborsgo Editor, the Dallas Morning News — 2013-2016
Reported, compiled and edited weekly community news inserts. Also took on general assignment reporting for the newspaper itself. Participated in a special department project to evaluate and grade local cities on their FOI compliance, which earned an award from the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors.
Reporter, The Daily Voice — 2011-2013
Helped launch The Daily Voice, a group of hyperlocal online news outlets in Westchester County while covering the villages of Tarrytown, Irvington and Sleepy Hollow.
