I don’t care what you say; Paul will always be the best. It’s scientific fact. For one, he’s listed in the Guinness World Records as the most successful musician in popular music history. That’s sales of 100 million singles and 60 gold discs (via Wikipedia).

And it’s also because only the coolest Beatle would have an urban myth about how some other guy is now pretending to be Paul because the original Paul died in a car crash. And only the coolest of the cool would mock the legend on his album Paul is Live.

I remember around third grade, Hansen broke out with their hit “Mmmbop.” I particularly remember one recess when I was hanging out by the stagecoach (yes, we had a stagecoach on our playground). Hansen was a serious topic to my fellow third graders.

Then of course, there were the other boy bands. Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, 98 Degrees. It was all pretty serious stuff for us out there.

But was it as bad this?

I honestly can’t say, because I was never one to buy teeny bopper magazines. I think that year I started to read the Hank the Cowdog books (which were really good). That and any other book I could get my hands on.

I do recall a friend having posters plastered all around her room, so probably yes. There must have been fanzines. I just missed out on them.

So I pretty much got a good laugh when I decided to download J-magazine. I’m still not quite sure how “Are You the Girl of Nick Jonas Type” works out.

The Weird, Obsessive One

Have you ever really gotten into a song and listened to it over and over and over and over and over again? Well, I have. And lately, it’s been two songs: “Oh Sherrie” by Steve Perry and “Sherry” by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I can’t explain the name thing. It’s just a coincidence.

Steve Perry is, of course, fantastic on this song. It’s a classic. Don’t try to deny the fact that you love this song. You know as well as I do that when this song comes on the radio, you belt it out.

Frankie Valli is harder to explain. Normally, his voice creeps me out (Big Girls Don’t Cry, anyone?). But I can’t get this song out of my head.

A side note, anyone know why it’s the FOUR seasons when in fact, there’s only THREE other singers besides Frankie? I mean, why would they use “seasons” with only three people? Where’s #4?

Watch the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest winner Dima Bilan perform “Believe.”

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) – Russian singer Dima Bilan won the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, beating performers from Ukraine and Greece. Bilan won the title early Sunday with the R&B ballad “Believe,” which featured a violinist and an ice skater in the packed Beogradska Arena hall.

Bilan made a comeback two years after he settled for second place.

He won 272 points from viewers from 43 countries who picked the winner by phone calls and text messages.

The Eurovision Song Contest is Europe’s most glamorous pop song festival. It is watched by an audience of more than 100 million people around the globe.

Bilan’s triumph is the first ever for Russia.
