The Most Depressing News of All Time

Surely the most depressing thing one can hear is “it almost was.”

Today, I heard that news. Where exactly? In my Intro to American Government class.

You may be asking me what I could possibly learn in a government class that would be so depressing. Let me explain:

George W. Bush (the former president) came to campus yesterday. He spoke for about an hour to a political science class (that wasn’t mine). They got him for an hour. He answered their questions. Talked to them. Shook their hands. Etc.

We’re all pretty jealous of that class (regardless if you like or dislike Bush). So imagine how horrible it was when Professor Wilson (my government professor) announced that a few weeks ago, someone in the Provost’s office (I forget who exactly he said it was), asked him when his intro to government class was because they were trying to arrange a “special guest” to come and speak.

Wilson gave him the time and place. Later, he found out that the class time didn’t work for the “special guest.” He forgot about it.

Until yesterday.

D’oh! Bush was the “special guest.” And I, apparently, am in the wrong government class. You can see how this depressed me. I mean, I don’t really feel strongly about Bush either way, but it would have been nice to get to actually talk with him.

He is a rather important figure, you know?
