Mid-College Crisis: Should I Change My College/Career Goals?
Spent the last couple of hours in the DC’s archives. Maybe I’m in the wrong profession? Library Science would be fun.
But I’m looking at the list of requirements to be a librarian (taken from TNT’s Librarian trilogy, which you should all see):
- knowledge of the Dewey decimal system
- knowledge of the Library of Congress research paper orthodoxy
- knowledge of web searching
- the ability to set up an RSS feed
What do I have? I can web search like nobody’s business. It’s how I was able to survive freshman year without a television and was still able to discuss current TV shows (as well as a few old ones). The Dewey Decimal System? Pretty much have that down. Library of Congress research paper orthodoxy? I didn’t know it existed. And I don’t know how to set up an RSS feed.
Maybe that’s what they teach you in the Library Science field.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with my majors/minor/college/career goals. But I don’t think it’s a bad idea to stop and take a look around every few months. I like to reevaluate. You could say it keeps me focused. It also helps me realize if something just isn’t working (like being in m high school’s marching band, for instance).
Plus, I can always take up library science as a hobby. I’ve already got too many books.
