The One About Estelle
Today, her death really took me by surprise. Of course, we knew it had to be coming–Estelle had withdrawn from public life during her battle with Lewy’s Body Dementia.
And while this may be a blessing in disguise, her death is still a great loss.
For most of us, we knew her as Sophia Petrillo. She was spunky. She was feisty. She was a pain in the butt. But we loved her. We loved her quick comebacks and spirit. We loved how even though she was over 80, she took life as though she was much much younger.
Estelle Getty was the best choice for this role, and I think it’s safe to say that her portrayal will be forever remembered.
